Jake Abel was born and raised in North Canton, Ohio. Being raised in the town of The Football Hall of Fame, he naturally played sports growing up. His main focus was on baseball, hoping to play in the Major League someday. It wasn’t until Jake was fifteen and his family moved to South Carolina that he began taking improvisation classes at The Charleston Stage Theater, which is when he found his true calling. Jake and his family spent less than a year in South Carolina before realizing that life was leading them out to California.
Jake continued his love of improvisation by taking several classes with The Groundlings. To this day, improvisation is his favorite form of acting and he loves to bring it into his work when possible. He’s been lucky enough to play a nice range of characters in his early career. From his breakout role as a lead in the Disney Channel movie Go Figure, where he played an assistant hockey coach for a girls hockey team, to an alien possessed southern cadet in CBS’s Threshold. Jake has also played a teen with co-dependency issues (which lead him to murder) on Cold Case, and a conservationist intent on saving his beloved turkey from attacking Steve Zahn in the Adam Sandler produced film Strange Wilderness.
